An officer-involved shooting occurred in Claiborne County while law enforcement was serving a man with a felony warrant.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is investigating the shooting after deputies with the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office attempted to serve an outstanding felony warrant for aggravated assault on 19-year-old Lorenzoe January at his residence.
January allegedly exited his home through a window and attempted to flee before pointing a gun at the deputies. This resulted in a deputy drawing a gun of their own and firing at the subject.
He was able to flee the scene, but later reportedly contacted the sheriff’s office and claimed that he had been shot in the foot. January had not been located as of Thursday afternoon.
“MBI is currently assessing this critical incident and gathering evidence,” the MBI said in a statement. “Upon completing the investigation, agents will share their findings with the Attorney General’s Office. This information is preliminary and subject to change.”
Addition information will be provided when it’s made available.
