Tupelo High School is bringing a championship-winning coach to town with the announcement that Cliff Little will lead the boys’ basketball program.
The Tupelo Public School District announced Little’s hiring on social media Wednesday afternoon, calling it a “big-time hire.” The longtime Biggersville High School coach was approved by the district’s Board of Trustees just before the social post dropped.
Little comes to MHSAA 7A Tupelo after spending the past 15 years at Biggersville, an MHSAA 1A school that won six championships under his guidance. Four of those were on the boys’ side, and two were on the girls’ side.
He previously served as the head coach at East Webster High School, where he won a boys’ title in 2008.
Little replaces Robert Green, who stepped down to become an assistant principal at Milam Elementary School within the Tupelo Public School District.
The Golden Wave boys’ basketball team went 18-8 and made it to the second round of the playoffs this past season. The program last won a state championship in 2016.
