As NFL teams work to cut down 90-player training camp rosters to the 53-man roster limit for the regular season, a former Mississippi high school star will be looking for a new team.
The New Orleans Saints announced Monday that running back Cam Akers was let go as part of the franchise’s roster reduction. Akers appeared in all three preseason games for the Saints, carrying the ball eight times for 16 yards.
“Cam is a good running back, [but] our room is filled with excellent talent,” head coach Kellen Moore said during a morning press conference. “We have a lot of offensive talent, especially in the running back position.”
Before Moore announced the first round of cuts, which included 14 players, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero broke the news that Akers was being waived. Akers went to social media and wrote, “NFL a crazy place” along with a crying emoji.
