A man has been arrested after allegedly breaking into two Columbus churches earlier this week.

Deshon Marquez O’Neal is said to have broken into the Columbus Church of Christ and Our Savior Lutheran Church on Monday morning.

According to police, O’Neal stole multiple robes from the churches with one of the local pastors confirming to WTVA that cameras showed the perpetrator using a stick to break through the church’s glass doors before drinking communion and tossing communion trays across the sanctuary.

The Columbus Police Department also revealed on Facebook that O’Neal told officers his name was “Jesus” and that he broke into the churches for religious reasons.

“When asked his name, the subject advised officers that his name was Jesus and that he burglarized the two churches for religious reasons,” a portion of the social media post reads. “The subject maintained that he was Jesus for several days following his arrest but eventually identified himself as Deshon Marquez O’Neal.”

O’Neal has been charged with one count of disorderly conduct and two counts of burglary.
