Five people are dead, and one is injured following a crash involving a train in south Mississippi.
Officials with the Stone County Sheriff’s Department said the incident happened Friday around 1 p.m. at Pump Branch Road near Highway 49. A van carrying six people was struck by the train and first responders had to maneuver through a patch of woods to get to the crash site.

Five of the six van passengers died at the scene. The sixth individual was transported via helicopter to a hospital in New Orleans.
The deceased were identified as Ryan Peterson, 26; Kristina Carver, 45; Emley Shamble, 22; Sarabeth Chambless, 20; and Demarcus Perkins, 23.
Peterson was a corrections officer with the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department, while both Emley Chamblee and Sarabeth Chamblee are the daughters of Carver.
