The New York Giants and former Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart earned a week one victory over the Dallas Cowboys and former Mississippi State signal caller Dak Prescott.
New York downed Dallas 28-20 in the first Sunday Night Football matchup of the regular season. Dart led the Giants offensively with 230 passing yards and 3 touchdowns. He added 54 yards on the ground.
His top target was tight end Isaiah Likely, a former Baltimore Raven whom the Giants signed in free agency. Likely totaled 78 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 8 receptions. Malik Nabers, who was injured most of last season, had a solid return, with 69 yards on 6 receptions.
Dart credited first-year Giants head coach John Harbaugh with dialing up a winning game plan. New York outgained Dallas by 150 yards and had possession of the ball for 13 more minutes.
“Our coaches did an amazing job of putting us in a great situation to capitalize on those moments and be in control,” Dart said after the game. “We were able to put really long drives together, execute on a high note, and then when we got down to the red zone, we were able to capitalize with a touchdown.”
Prescott had 175 passing yards, 2 touchdowns, and an interception in the matchup. The Giants and Cowboys will face off once again on Jan. 3.
