According to the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, a deputy with the Stone County Sheriff’s Office was responding to a domestic violence call at a Dollar General on U.S. 49 just before 4:30 p.m. on Sunday. When he arrived, the suspect – now identified as Perry L. Stephens, Jr., 52, of Benndale – shot the deputy in the arm to which the deputy fired back.
