The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency, along with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, will open two additional disaster recovery centers to help survivors apply for assistance after 18 tornadoes tore through the state in mid-March.
According to a release from MEMA on Tuesday afternoon, the disaster recovery centers will be open in Montgomery County Wednesday through Friday. Staff will be on site at Montgomery County Coliseum in Winona and Duck Hill Fire Department from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. daily to assist those looking to apply for FEMA aid.
Earlier this week, MEMA opened 10 disaster recovery centers in Covington, Grenada, Itawamba, Issaquena, Jefferson Davis, Leflore, Marion, Pike, Smith, and Walthall counties.
Upon applying for assistance in person, survivors will be asked to provide a description of the damage, home address at the time of the disaster, social security number, contact information, annual household income, bank account information for direct deposit reasons, and insurance information if insured.
Grants are available to individuals and business owners for temporary housing, home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs.
