Early this morning, a DUI was issued to a Gulfport police officer while he was driving in a city-issued vehicle.
Around 2:50 a.m., the Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to a vehicle that was seen near Highway 605 and Highway 67, later finding Gulfport Police Detective Manuel Santos behind the wheel.
The troopers then gave Santos, who was off duty at the time, a sobriety test and arrested him for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Now, the department is conducting an internal investigation on the matter while Santos is on personal leave from his position.
