An elderly woman has passed away after being shot in the head while lying down on the couch of her home in Jackson.
Police report that the victim, identified on Tuesday as 80-year-old Annie Peoples, was killed after a shooting that took place in the 3800 block of Nichols Boulevard on Monday around 11:30 p.m. Multiple individuals are said to have opened fire on the residence. Peoples died at the scene.
The shooters were allegedly attempting to strike another individual they believed to be at the home, but the unidentified person was not present at the time, according to Jackson police.
