Elvis is back in the building. Well, at least a statue of the King of Rock and Roll is back at a Booneville theater after being stolen.
Law enforcement tracked down the statue after a group of thieves took it from Von Theater on July 2. In the nearly two weeks since, the investigation has resulted in two male juveniles being identified while two other females caught on camera as part of the theft have yet to be caught.
But, on Monday, the Booneville Police Department announced that the statue had been recovered and returned to its rightful owner.
“The missing Elvis statue was recovered last week and returned to its owner,” the announcement reads. “Although two juvenile suspects were identified in the case, the two female suspects have yet to be identified. We are still seeking help from the public in identifying the two female suspects.”
The life-size statue of Elvis Presley was sitting on a bench outside the theater – a theater in which Presley performed alongside Johnny Cash in 1956 – before a white pick-up truck with two males inside loaded the statue into the vehicle’s bed. The statue was then driven to a nearby alley and dropped off before a sedan with two females picked up the statue.
One of the female suspects got back into the vehicle and drove off with the statue, while the other walked away from the scene toward the downtown area.
Booneville police has received numerous tips, but none that have led to the arrests of the suspects at large. Anyone with relevant information can contact BPD at (662) 728-5611 or Crime Stoppers of Northeast Mississippi at 1 (800) 773-8477.
