Ole Miss football frontman Lane Kiffin will be the center of attention in the latest ESPN E60 special set to air Wednesday evening.
The episode, titled “The Many Lives of Lane Kiffin,” will feature a sit-down with ESPN senior writer and college football historian Ryan McGee and the Ole Miss coach. Airing at 6 p.m. CT, the documentary will give a detailed account of Kiffin’s complicated coaching journey, including his ascension to high-profile gigs, abrupt departures, firings from multiple spots, and his resurgence as a family man.
“From infamous firings to social media trolling, Lane Kiffin is one of the most polarizing and fascinating figures in sports,” a release from ESPN reads. “In a new episode, ESPN E60 explores Kiffin’s life and career as the Ole Miss head football coach grapples with his legacy and reflects on the coach, father, and person he wants to be.”
Viewers will hear from members of Kiffin’s family, including his daughter, Landry, and his son, Knox, along with archival sound from the coach’s late father. Others featured in the episode will be Las Vegas Raiders coach Pete Carroll, decorated former Alabama coach Nick Saban, Texas coach Steve Sarkisian, renowned sports journalist Chris Low, and popular sports radio and television host Paul Finebaum, among others.
McGee, who interviewed Kiffin during the documentary, hopes the viewing audience will see how Kiffin has learned from past encounters and grown both personally and as a coach since taking the Ole Miss job in 2019.
“We’re allowed to evolve, and I think that because he’s in Oxford. And because everyone thinks they already know who he is based on whether they live in Knoxville, Southern California, Oakland, or wherever, I think he’s changed and people don’t realize it,” McGee, who has known Kiffin since the two were children, said on SportsTalk Mississippi. “I know he certainly hopes that maybe, after they watch this documentary on Wednesday, they will see a little bit of that.”
An extended version of the E60 special will be available on the ESPN app after the debut. In the meantime, No. 13 Ole Miss is gearing up for a Magnolia Bowl rivalry matchup versus bitter foe No. 4 LSU. The rivalry game will kick off from Vaught-Hemingway Stadium on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. CT. ABC and participating SuperTalk Mississippi stations will air the matchup.
