A father and two of his sons are behind bars in connection with the shooting death of a Mississippi teenager.
The Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office reports that Rakem Townsend and Camelo Hedrick are charged with murder for the death of 17-year-old Dawaynemonion Hedrick. The suspects’ father, Vernard Townsend, is charged with accessory after the fact and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Officials report that the gunfire rang out in the area of Hinds Street and Tillman Road near the Bikini Lounge in Pattison on Thursday afternoon. When deputies arrived at the scene, the victim was found suffering from gunshot wounds and was later pronounced dead. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation helped local officials track down the suspects.
“Sheriff [Edward] Goods extends his deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Dawaynemonion Hedrick during this difficult time and asks that the community keep them in their thoughts and prayers,” a statement from the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office reads.
A motive for the shooting and the victims’ relation to the alleged shooters were not announced, though law enforcement officials are still investigating this case. Additional charges against the suspects are possible.
