The Federal Emergency Management Agency has announced its latest round of grants for areas impacted by natural disasters with two of the recipients being local governments in Mississippi.
Jefferson Davis County received $1.6 million for the removal of debris following severe weather that trekked through the county earlier this year. In total, three tornadoes were reported to have touched down in the county on March 15, the worst being rated an EF-3, as part of a larger severe weather outbreak that also impacted other parts of the state.
The city of Gulfport received $1.1 million for repairs to the Ken Combs Pier damaged by Hurricane Zeta in 2020.
Both of the grants are part of FEMA’s Public Assistance program, which provides funds for state and local government response and recovery work. The agency reimburses the costs at no less than a 75% share.
Wednesday’s announcement included a total of $12.7 million in aid for locations in Mississippi, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Kentucky.
