A Florence daycare worker is facing multiple charges after investigators say she abused children in her care.
The Rankin County Sheriff’s Department arrested Sharon Elaine Young on Tuesday, charging her with seven counts of contributing to the neglect of a child. Her arrest followed a week-long investigation into allegations of abuse at a Florence daycare facility where she was employed.
According to the sheriff’s department, investigators uncovered clear evidence showing Young mistreating children while on duty. The investigation was conducted in coordination with the Mississippi State Department of Health, which regulates childcare facilities across the state.
Once investigators gathered enough evidence, they obtained an arrest warrant through Rankin County Court. Young was later booked into the Rankin County Detention Center, where she received a $20,000 bond.
Officials have not released the name of the daycare center involved.
