Former Aberdeen mayor arrested during CBD store raid

The former mayor of Aberdeen has been taken into custody following raids at two CBD stores by Monroe County authorities.

Maurice Vernon Howard was arrested along with three other suspects during the raiding of The Gas Station locations in Aberdeen and Amory on Thursday morning.

According to authorities, both stores were allegedly selling illegal marijuana, resulting in the arrests of the former mayor, Kenyatta Likiesha Howard, Vernon Lamar Harrison, and Daniel Clyde Sanders.

At this time, officials have released that the suspects are facing the following charges:

  • Maurice Howard – sale of narcotics and possession of narcotics with intent to distribute
  • Kenyatta Howard – possession of narcotics with intent to distribute
  • Vernon Harrison – sale of narcotics
  • Daniel Sanders – sale of narcotics

Howard was removed from his position as mayor in 2021 after being accused of using the city’s money for his own personal use while traveling.

The raid was a joint investigation put together by Narcotic Agents from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department, Amory Police Department, and the North Mississippi Narcotic Unit, as well as the Aberdeen Police Department and Mississippi ABC Agents.
