Former Booneville police officer Dustin Rambo was sentenced yesterday to 16 months in prison with one year of supervised release.
Chief U.S. District Judge Debra Brown convicted Rambo for stealing money from people at multiple traffic stops, searches, and arrests over a nine-month period. Rambo was also convicted of making false statements to an FBI agent when being questioned about his misdemeanors.
“Dustin Rambo took advantage of his position as a trusted law enforcement officer to prey on those he swore to keep safe. Deprivation of the right to be free of unreasonable search and seizure is unacceptable and will not go unpunished,” stated FBI Special Agent in Charge Jermicha L. Fomby.
34-year-old Rambo was fired from the Booneville Police Department in January 2021 when the allegations came to light.
He was later charged in an FBI report in March with “one felony count of deprivation of rights under color of law–privacy/bodily injury and four misdemeanor counts of deprivation of rights under color of law– unreasonable search and seizure/taking of property without due process.”
Rambo pleaded guilty in September to four misdemeanor theft charges and one felony charge, while a sexual assault charge was dismissed.
