Former city of Columbus CFO found dead in prison

Former Columbus Chief Financial Officer Milton Rawle has passed away in prison.

The Rankin County Coroner’s Office confirmed that Milton Rawle died while in custody at the Central Mississippi Correctional Facility on Saturday.

Rawle pleaded guilty to embezzlement on February 23, 2021. He was found guilty of transferring nearly $300,000 of city funds to his own bank account.

The former Columbus CFO was sentenced to 20 years in prison and ordered to repay the city more than $108,000.

An ongoing investigation is underway into Rawle’s death. No official autopsy findings have been reported at this time.

The Mississippi Department of Corrections has yet to respond to a request for comment from SuperTalk Mississippi News regarding Rawle’s recent passing.
