A former lead cashier for Clarksdale Public Utilities has pleaded guilty to embezzling thousands from the city.

Shoral Bounds, who was arrested in June 2022, pleaded guilty in court on Friday. Bounds previously embezzled customer utility payments and manipulated computer systems to show that her daily collections were less than she collected, according to the state auditor’s office.

“Thank you to the dedicated investigators who worked this matter for our office,” State Auditor Shad White said. “We will continue to send the message that there will be zero tolerance of theft of public funds in Mississippi.”

Bounds is now ordered to pay $115,981.33 in restitution and other court fees. She will not be allowed to handle public money again.
