A former IT manager with the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Department was taken into custody over the weekend for possessing child pornography.
On Saturday, 43-year-old John Herring was arrested after he was identified as the suspect in a criminal investigation involving the possession of illicit material depicting nude images of minors.
“John was a civilian employee who worked in our IT department. We conducted a criminal investigation that identified him as the suspect in a case involving possession of child pornography, and he was charged accordingly,” DCSD Chief Deputy Justin Smith stated.
“John is no longer an employee of the Sheriff’s Department. We take criminal matters within our organization very seriously, and we have no intention of allowing this behavior to go unpunished.”
Herring is charged with child exploitation possessing or accessing child pornography. He is currently out on a $50,000 bond.
