A former Mississippi football star has been locked up in Atlanta and is facing rape charges.
According to jail records, Keon Howard was booked into the Fulton County Jail by the Atlanta Police Department on Oct. 29. Howard, 26, was charged with aggravated sexual battery and rape. The offenses happened on Oct. 28, records show.
The Laurel-Leader Call reported that Howard was denied bail and awaits his next court appearance scheduled for Nov. 18.
Howard was a standout quarterback for Laurel High School and helped lead the Tornadoes to a class 5A state championship in 2015. The three-star recruit went to play for nearby Southern Miss before transferring to Tulane and then UT Martin. As a graduate player at UT Martin, he was named the Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Year and tabbed as finalist for the Walter Payton Award, which goes out annually to the top FCS player.
