Former Oxford officer gets life sentence in 2019 murder case

Matthew Kinne, a former Oxford police officer, has pled guilty on capital murder charges in the 2019 death of Dominique Clayton.

Kinne will spend the rest of his life in prison without the possibility of parole after pleading guilty to Clayton’s murder in a Union County Court this afternoon.

Clayton was shot inside of her Oxford home on May 19, 2019 and was found by one of her four children. In the days following her murder, Kinne was identified as the primary suspect as it was revealed that the two were romantically involved. He was arrested two days later and was fired by the Oxford Police Department. Additionally, two other officers resigned throughout the course of the investigation.

According to WMC in Memphis, Clayton’s family was seeking the death penalty but are satisfied with the sentence
