Danny Lynch, a former star infielder for Southern Miss, is trying to reach that same stardom but with a clipboard in his hand.
Lynch was announced Monday as the head baseball coach at Mississippi Delta Community College. Just 25 years old, he becomes one of the youngest skippers hired by the junior college in Moorhead.
“Mississippi Delta Community College is proud to announce that Danny Lynch has been selected to lead the Trojan baseball team for the 2025-26 season,” an announcement noted.
Lynch played for Southern Miss from 2018-23, becoming the program’s all-time leader in most games played (268) and captaining the team during his final two seasons. His career stat line included a .284 batting average with 269 hits, 34 home runs, and 172 RBI.
He returned to Hattiesburg in 2024 as a graduate assistant before being elevated to director of hitting and infield development going into the 2025 season.
As a player and coach, Lynch was part of four conference championship-winning teams and six regional squads – two of which advanced to the super regional rounds in 2022 and 2023.
Lynch takes over a Trojan team that won just six games a season ago and ended the year on a nine-game losing streak. While the program has some history to it with 11 state championships, it has not neared a winning record since going 7-7 in a shortened 2020 season.
Excited to get to work! Grateful for my time @SouthernMissBSB. Incredible people who have made me who I am today. Let’s get this train back rolling! @TrojanBB https://t.co/dYUiNKV20L
