Community members are coming together to raise money for the family of a Kossuth High School student-athlete killed in a weekend car crash.
Mason Mills, 17, was killed in a car crash Saturday morning on U.S. Highway 72 West near the Union Center community. Additional details have not yet been released, but the investigation is ongoing.
Mills was a two-way athlete, playing both tight end and defensive line for the Kossuth Aggies, and was heading into his senior year.
An online fundraiser titled “Support for the Mills Family After Mason’s Loss” was set up following the crash. As of Monday morning, nearly $18,000 had been raised in support of the Mills family to help cover the funeral and costs of living while Mills’ parents take off work to grieve and take care of their three daughters.
“Mason Mills was a bright and caring young man, preparing to start his senior year at Kossuth High School,” wrote Tasha McVey, who set up the GoFundMe. “He brought joy to everyone around him, and his big heart touched countless lives. … Every contribution, no matter the size, will make a difference and show the Mills family that their community stands with them.”
