With the Division I baseball season beginning in less than 24 hours, Ole Miss and Mississippi State fans got some welcome news recently regarding TV scheduling.

According to the Southeastern Conference’s official broadcast schedule, the annual Governor’s Cup between the Rebels and Bulldogs will be on cable television for the first time since 2018. The midweek matchup in Pearl is set for Wednesday, May 1, and will be broadcast on ESPNU.

“Our long statewide nightmare of how are we going to watch this game has been solved for us,” Brian Hadad of SportsTalk Mississippi said as co-host Michael Borkey pitched in, “It’s not just streaming. If you have television, you’ll get to watch the game. Sometimes, you celebrate things even if they’re years and years and years too late. It’s 2024 and we finally get to watch a major college baseball game on television. Celebrate the accomplishment. It’s about time.”

As it stands, Ole Miss will play in 11 televised games with appearances on ESPNU, ESPN2, and SEC Network. Mississippi State, on the other hand, will get nine chances to play in front of a national audience with games also on ESPNU, ESPN2, and SEC Network.

Both programs, which have each won a national championship within the last three years, will look to overcome disappointing 2023 campaigns and return to the postseason when first pitch across the country takes place on Friday, Feb. 16.
