To celebrate birthdays of late music legends B.B. King and Elvis Presley, Grammy Museum Mississippi will be hosting a free “Rock ‘N’ Roll Blues Family Day” event on Saturday, Nov. 15.
The event will go from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and feature plenty of entertainment and activities in addition to the usual exhibits. John Clayton White, a blues guitar prodigy, will take the stage. At only 14 years old, White has been invited to perform with the likes of Susan Tedeschi, Derek Trucks, and members of the B.B. King band.
There will be local dancers performing, as well, and a dress-up contest encouraging guests to come dressed as Presley or King.
Additionally, the Rock ‘N’ Roll Blues Family Day will include arts and crafts provided by the Delta Arts Alliance, interactive offerings from Delta State University’s Delta Music Institute, and food vendors on site.
“We are so thrilled to celebrate the 100th birthday of B.B. King and the 90th birthday of Elvis Presley with a special free Family Day event at Grammy Museum Mississippi,” said Emily Havens, the museum’s executive director. “We welcome everyone in Cleveland and the surrounding areas to come out for what will be a fantastic day of music, art, and family fun. We’re excited to honor two music icons whose legacies continue to inspire generations and to share their stories with our community in a meaningful way.”
The Rock ‘N’ Roll Blues Family Day at Grammy Museum Mississippi is presented by Visit Mississippi, Mississippi Delta National Heritage Area, King’s Daughter and Sons Circle Number 2, Mississippi Arts Commission, and SuperTalk Mississippi Media.
Grammy Museum Mississippi is the only official Grammy museum outside of the original in Los Angeles. It’s located at 800 West Sunflower Road in Cleveland. More information can be found here.
