A Gulfport man was arrested Monday after police said he carjacked and kidnapped a car dealership employee at gunpoint during a test drive.
The Gulfport Police Department issued a release Tuesday morning, announcing that 33-year-old Reginald Donovan Johnson was charged with armed robbery, armed carjacking, and kidnapping.
Officers responded around 10:44 a.m. to Dedeaux Road after reports of a carjacking. According to witnesses, Johnson posed as a potential customer, asked to test drive a vehicle, then pulled out a gun during the ride. Police said he forced the employee to drive to another location, stole the victim’s cellphone at gunpoint, and pushed the victim out before fleeing in the vehicle.
Detectives later identified Johnson as the suspect and found the stolen vehicle. He was taken into custody without incident,
Johnson was booked into the Harrison County Adult Detention Center with his bond being set at $1.5 million. Police are asking anyone with information about the case to contact the Gulfport Police Department or Mississippi Crime Stoppers.
