Law enforcement officials in the Mississippi Golden Triangle are investigating after a gun was found in a child’s backpack.
The incident happened on Monday afternoon. Officials with the West Point Consolidated School District said the firearm was discovered in the unidentified elementary school student’s backpack while the pupil was on a school bus.
“The weapon was secured without incident. We are working closely with law enforcement as this matter is under investigation,” a statement from the school district reads.
No additional information has been released at this time.
