An investigation is underway after an officer-involved shooting in Stone County left two people injured, including a sheriff’s deputy.
According to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, deputies with the Stone County Sheriff’s Office were attempting to serve a warrant at a residence on Carl Taylor Road in Wiggins. That’s when a subject discharged a weapon at the deputies.
Deputies returned fire, striking the subject in the leg. One of the deputies on site was struck by a bullet in the shoulder. Both the subject and the deputy were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
No other people were injured during the incident.
MBI is currently assessing and gathering evidence. Upon completing the investigation, agents will share their findings with the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office.
