A Hattiesburg man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for aggravated assault.
44-year-old Kristian Lee Aultman was found guilty by a jury last week. Before imposing the sentence, the judge called this “the most serious type of case you can have without it being a homicide,” noting that testimony at trial established the victim would have died without the emergency medical care she received.
Stone County deputies responded to a report of a violent assault on Magnolia Road in Lumberton in September 2022. The victim managed to flee to a nearby neighbor’s home after the attack, where neighbors provided emergency medical aid while they waited for help to arrive. The woman suffered deep lacerations to her neck and was transported to Forrest General Hospital.
The Defendant was quickly apprehended walking on Highway 26. He was found with blood on his face and a box cutter-style knife in his pants pocket, which was later confirmed to be the weapon used in the assault.
