Some government buildings in Hinds County have been evacuated over a suspicious device.
Sheriff Tyree Jones reported a “potential hazardous device threat” that prompted an evacuation from the Hinds County Circuit Courthouse and the Hinds County Circuit Clerk’s Office in downtown Jackson on Monday morning. While additional details were not provided, Jones said multiple law enforcement agencies are on site to investigate.
This is not the first time suspicious activity has taken place within government buildings in Hinds County this year. Back in February, the circuit and chancery courthouses were temporarily closed after someone had penned unspecified notes at the doors of the facilities and vandalized them with spray paint. No arrests were announced in that case, but police deemed the courthouses safe to reopen.
