A historic campaign for the Ole Miss men’s golf team came to an end on Tuesday with the No. 3 Rebels narrowly falling short of reaching the final round of match play in the NCAA championships.
Chris Malloy’s club fell to No. 4 Oklahoma State 3-2 in the semifinals. The battle between the Rebels and Cowboys ended in dramatic fashion. Oklahoma State golfer Preston Stout defeated individual national champion Michael La Sasso 5-4 to secure the first semifinal point for the Cowboys.

Kye Meeks placed Ole Miss on the board, defeating Gaven Lane 4-2 to even the match at 1-1. Rebel golfer Tom Fischer took down Oklahoma State’s Ethan Fang in an 18-hole thriller to put Ole Miss up 2-1. After both players hit errant tee shots, Fischer managed to scramble and converted a long two-putt for par to secure the point for his team.
Junior Cameron Tankersley worked his way back from being three down through seven holes to force a playoff against Cowboy standout Filip Fahlberg-Johnsson. Both players bogied the first playoff hole, sending the match back to the 17th. Tankersley’s approach found the bunker, and Fahlberg-Johnsson secured a birdie. Fahlberg-Johnsson eventually knotted the match up at 2-2.

The match between Ole Miss’ Cohen Trolio and Oklahoma State’s Eric Lee was set to determine which team would advance to compete for a title crown. Both golfers had strong showings that landed the pair in two playoff holes. After tying on the first extra hole, Lee would not be denied the second time around as he secured a par putt to send Oklahoma State to the finals where the club will take on Virginia.
The third-place finish at the NCAA Championships is the best by an Ole Miss team in program history. The match play appearance marked the first in program history for the Rebels, whose previous best finish since the format began in 2009 was No. 14 back in 2022.
