A historic season for the Belhaven baseball team came to an end during super-regional play over the weekend.
The Blazers, who were making their first-ever NCAA Division III tournament appearance, swept through the Webster Regional with wins over Rhodes, host Webster, and Milwaukee School of Engineering. As one of the last 16 teams remaining and looking for a spot in the College World Series, Belhaven was outplayed by Denison in a best-of-three super regional series.

The scores from the weekend series were 17-3 and 14-1, both in favor of Denison.
Even with the tough ending to the 2025 campaign, the Blazers made history along the way. Second-year head coach Andrew Gipson led his squad to a runner-up finish behind Huntingdon in the Collegiate Conference of the South. A top 20 NPI ranking landed Belhaven an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament, which resulted in the program’s first regional and super regional appearances.
Three Blazers were named Tuesday to the ABCA Rawlings Division III All-Region VI teams: Kade May, Tristan Pearson, and JD Weed. May and Pearson led the trio by cracking the second team while Weed rounded out the honors as a member of the third team.
May, Belhaven’s ace, finished the season with an 8-2 record across 14 starts and 15 total appearances. He compiled a 2.46 ERA, 64 strikeouts, and racked up four complete games, including one complete game shutout. The senior was also named to the All-Region VI first team by D3baseball.com.
Pearson was a do-it-all guy for the Blazers, playing multiple positions and finishing the year with a .391 batting average and a 1.002 OPS. Spending time at first base and in right field, the senior was a national leader in on-base percentage at .542 and 60 walks compared to just 27 strikeouts.
Weed earned a spot on the All-Region team as an outfielder, hitting .316 in his first campaign with Belhaven. The junior transfer from Co-Lin Community College racked up a team-high 21 extra-base hits with 10 doubles, five triples, and six home runs. He also drove in 40 runs while swiping 16 bases. He did not commit a single error in the field.
Belhaven finished the 2025 season with a 34-15 overall record, including a 13-5 mark in conference play.
The Division III College World Series takes place May 30 through June 5 and includes Johns Hopkins, Denison, Wisconsin-Whitewater, Endicott, Kean, Trinity (TX), Rowan, and Messiah competing for the title.
