A cow was the one doing the prodding along a Mississippi Pine Belt highway on Tuesday.
The Jones County Sheriff’s Office reports that an 18-wheeler struck a cow on Highway 84 East near Gatlin-Jordan Road in Laurel in the early hours of the morning. A pickup truck later rammed into the animal, which was lying deceased, causing the automobile to leave the road and overturn.
Officials report that the drivers of both vehicles were assessed for injuries, but neither elected to be transported to a local hospital. The accidents caused a portion of the highway to be closed to oncoming traffic for a brief stint, but all lanes are currently up to speed.
As for the cow, a crew with the Mississippi Department of Transportation picked up the animal’s remains from the road. The Mississippi Highway Patrol is investigating the accidents.
