A homemade bomb was safely detonated by federal and local law enforcement in Panola County on Monday night.
The Panola County Sheriff’s Office informed the public around 9:45 p.m. that an explosive was discovered during a search warrant in the area of Highway 35 and Morrow Road.
Tupelo Police Department’s bomb squad and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and explosives responded to the scene and conducted a controlled detonation, which resulted in a loud boom heard by some residents.
“The ATF and Tupelo Bomb Squad just rendered safe a homemade explosive that was discovered as a result of the search warrant in the area of Highway 35 South and Morrow Road,” a public announcement by the PCSO reads. “This was done by detonating the device. If you just heard a loud boom…that was it.”
No injuries were reported, and authorities have not released any arrest information. The investigation remains ongoing.
