Longtime state Sen. John Horhn has received another major endorsement in his bid to become mayor of Jackson.
On Thursday, Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones issued his support for Horhn, writing on social media that Horhn’s “leadership and commitment to progress make him the right choice to move our city forward.”
“John Horhn has dedicated his career to serving the people of Jackson with integrity and vision,” Jones wrote. “His leadership and commitment to progress make him the right choice to move our city forward. Jackson is ready for strong, experienced leadership, and John Horhn is ready to deliver. I stand in support of his candidacy and the future he envisions for our community.”

The latest endorsement for Horhn joins a long list of others, including local business leaders, large-church pastors, the city’s fire union, and federal players like Congressman Bennie Thompson and former U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Mike Espy.
More importantly, Horhn was backed by nearly 75% of residents who voted for him over incumbent Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba in the Democratic runoff on April 22.
Horhn will face Republican nominee Kenny Gee and four independents – Rodney DePriest, Zach Servis, Lille Stewart-Robinson, and Kim Wade – in the general election on Tuesday, June 3. The winner will take over as mayor on July 1.
