Rain delays at Trustmark Park will be minimized in future baseball seasons.
The Mississippi Mud Monsters announced Thursday that the Pearl ballpark is undergoing a makeover this offseason. Officials said that the days of having a grass infield are over and that the surface will be covered by turf.
“That means no more nights washed away by rain, no more waiting out storms, and a whole lot more chances to pack the swamp together. Picture it: two-tone green ‘grass,’ rich brown ‘dirt,’ and crisp white lines that shine no matter the weather,” a release from the Mud Monsters reads.

This past season, rain delayed and postponed multiple Mud Monsters games, putting the Frontier League club in a peculiar rescheduling position. In 2023, unplayable infield conditions at Trustmark Park shortened an in-state battle between Ole Miss and Southern Miss.
Turfing that area of the field, a move that has become increasingly popular across the country, will limit weather-related cancellations and postponements. Per officials, it will also allow Trustmark Park to be more of a multi-purpose venue.
“But this isn’t just about baseball. This turf turns Trustmark Park into a year-round stage — for concerts, fairs, graduations, festivals, and whatever wild, wonderful ideas we cook up next,” the press release continued. “The swamp is growing. The gates are opening wider. And this ballpark is about to belong to everyone.”
