A state inmate in George County was found unresponsive before later dying at a hospital, according to the local sheriff’s office.
On Sunday at approximately 7:55 a.m., officials at the George County Regional Correctional Facility reported that inmate Robert O. Pugh was found unresponsive. The sheriff’s office said in a release that life-saving measures were initiated by responding personnel, with “a pulse successfully regained prior to the arrival of medical services.”
Pugh, 69, was then transported to George Regional Hospital in Lucedale, where he was pronounced dead at 8:03 a.m.
“Sheriff Mitchell Mixon and the George County Sheriff’s Office extend its condolences to the family and loved ones of Mr. Pugh during this difficult time,” the release stated.
An autopsy will be conducted to determine Pugh’s exact cause of death, but officials noted there were “no immediate findings which would indicate anything other than natural causes at this time.”
