An investigation has been launched after an inmate was found dead in Lowndes County.
Per a report from WTVA, the inmate identified as Eddie Thomas Jr., 52, of Columbus, was found unresponsive in his cell Monday around 7:00 a.m.
Sheriff Eddie Hawkins told the TV station that Thomas was awaiting trial and had been jailed for 56 days before his death.
Thomas’ cause of death has yet to be determined. However, the coroner confirmed no signs of trauma or injuries were discovered.
