An investigation is taking place after the death of a minor at a Mississippi Gulf Coast jail.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is looking into an incident in which an unidentified juvenile inmate was found dead at the Harrison County Detention Center.
Harrison County Sheriff Matt Haley confirmed to WXXV25 that the inmate happened to be a 16-year-old female who was in custody on an armed robbery charge. She was found dead in her jail cell on Friday around 6 p.m.
Officials do not suspect foul play at this time. MBI is currently assessing the in-custody death and gathering evidence.
Upon completing the investigation, agents will share their findings with the local District Attorney’s Office.
