An investigation has been launched after an officer-involved shooting in Tupelo left one person injured.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, which is heading the case, announced that the incident happened on Saturday afternoon near McCullough Boulevard and Interstate 22.
Officers with the Verona Police Department responded to a call to help a neighboring law enforcement agency in pursuit of a vehicle with a hostage inside. The suspect’s vehicle wrecked before the individual got out of the vehicle and brandished a weapon.
Verona officers fired their guns and seriously wounded the individual, who is being treated at a hospital.
