An Iranian man listed by the Department of Homeland Security as a “known or suspected terrorist” was arrested in Mississippi one day after the U.S. launched missiles at three Iranian nuclear sites.
DHS issued a release announcing that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement had arrested 11 Iranian nationals illegally living in the U.S. and known or suspected to be involved in terroristic activity. One of the arrests in the multi-state sting happened in Gluckstadt with Yousef Mehridehno being taken into custody.
According to DHS, Mehridehno previously was living in the U.S. legally before law enforcement found he lied on his visa application.
“The U.S. government terminated Mehridehno’s residency in October 2017 after determining he lied on his original visa application and committed potential marriage fraud,” the release reads. “In February, Mehridehno was listed as a known or suspected terrorist, and he’s now in ICE custody pending removal proceedings.”
Arrests as part of the multi-state sting were also made in Alabama, Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Minnesota, California, and New York.
Mehridehno was arrested on June 22. On June 21, President Donald Trump announced that the U.S. military joined Israeli attacks on Iran. Trump has since said a ceasefire agreement has been reached between the two Middle East countries in conflict.
