The Jackson Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport (JAN) is encouraging passengers to arrive a little earlier this week as peak holiday travel is expected.

Thursday, Dec. 21, and Friday, Dec. 22, are shaping into what could be the busiest days of the calendar year for JAN, according to communications director LSherie Dean with the Jackson Municipal Airport Authority (JMAA). Significant passenger traffic is expected until at least Tuesday, Jan. 2.

“During most of the end-of-year holiday period, the peak hours for departing passengers from JAN are between 5 a.m. and 10 a.m., then from noon until 6 p.m. daily,” a release from the JMAA said. “To ensure a smooth travel experience during this busy period, the [JMAA] strongly encourages all passengers to arrive at least two hours before their flight departures.”

In addition to the early arrival time, the JMAA is requesting passengers to make sure they have all information, including forms of identification, ready to go upon arriving at the airport.

JAN is coming off a calendar year in which it saw a 10-year high with over 1.2 million passengers, and according to officials, that number is expected to be even higher for 2023.
