A local nonprofit is asking for the public’s help in bringing a new music series to Jackson.
Downtown Jackson Partners announced Friday that voting is open to help the nonprofit win up to $120,000 from the Levitt Foundation for a free outdoor music series at Smith park. The grant must be won through public support, so residents are asked to click here or vote by texting JACKSON to 877-409-5525. Voting closes Sept. 15.
Liz Brister, president of Downtown Jackson Partners, said landing the grant would be a huge step in the nonprofit’s mission of revitalizing the capital city’s downtown district.
“We have so much momentum right now. We’ve been hosting more outdoor community events, and people are showing up and getting excited about them,” Brister said. “Winning this grant to provide a free concert series would be incredible for our community. We need the public’s help to make it happen.”

The Levitt Foundation is a national social impact funder with an emphasis on music, public space, and community building. Its Levitt Music Series Grants are multi-year grants to bring free outdoor concerts to cities across the nation.
If the bid by Downtown Jackson Partners is selected, the nonprofit will receive up to $120,000 over three years to produce the music series that would include at least seven concerts annually inside Smith Park with a diverse lineup of musicians promised.
“We are asking our community to help make this dream a reality,” Brister continued. “Jackson has a wealth of musical talent and performers. This grant will help us sustain our cultural economy and create a musical hub for revitalizing downtown. We have already received so much support, and we are grateful to every person who goes online or sends in a text over the next 10 days to vote for downtown Jackson. Let’s make this happen for our city.”
