The Atlanta Braves and their stadium’s naming rights sponsor, Truist, continue to team up and give back to HBCU athletic programs located across the Southeast.
The MLB club announced Monday that six HBCUs in Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama, and South Carolina have been selected as recipients for the 2025 Homers for Hank Together with Truist initiative. The initiative has now exceeded $1 million distributed since 2021 to help collegiate baseball and softball teams attain field improvements and technology needed in the new age.
HBCUs selected as grant recipients were Albany State University, Jackson State University, Alabama A&M, Benedict College, Claflin University, and South Carolina State University.
Jackson State will see its baseball program receive a turf home plate halo and HitTrax Technology, which is a simulator that can be used in practice to track performance data and analytics for both hitting and pitching.
The Atlanta Braves and Truist started the Homers for Hank Together initiative, in honor of Hall of Famer Hank Aaron, four years ago. Each season, $755 is donated for every home run hit by the Braves with the season’s end total going to support HBCUs in states where the club has the most fans.
Jackson State is the second Mississippi school to benefit from the program, with Tougaloo previously receiving a grant for new batting cage nets, field maintenance equipment, game equipment, and field improvements for its baseball and softball programs.
