Another accolade has come in for Jackson State’s national title-winning football coach, T.C. Taylor.
Jackson State’s athletic department announced that Taylor was honored at the Black College Football Hall of Fame on Saturday, being named Black Football Coach of the Year after leading the Tigers to a 12-2 record in 2024.

Taylor, who was in his second season as the head coach at JSU, had a breakout campaign wearing the headset last fall. The Tigers ended the season with the nation’s longest winning streak in FCS at 10, including a Southwestern Athletic Conference championship and a win over South Carolina State in the Cricket Celebration Bowl – considered the HBCU national championship.
Taylor was also named to the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year watchlist and helped Jackson State go on to be the 2024 HBCU National Team of the Year.
Taylor’s 2024 group was highlighted by SWAC Offensive Player of the Year Irv Mulligan and SWAC Freshman of the Year Travis Terrell, Jr. While Mulligan is now chasing his dreams on the professional level, Terrell will be back to lead the running back corps in 2025. The incoming Jackson State football season begins on Aug. 30 against Hampton.
