After posting clutch performances in their respective games on Saturday, Mississippi State linebacker Jett Johnson and Ole Miss kicker Caden Davis were both recognized as players of the week in the Southeastern Conference (SEC).

Johnson was named this week’s SEC Defensive Player of the Week. During the Bulldogs’ 31-24 overtime victory over Arizona, Johnson recorded 11 tackles, two for a loss, and one sack. The Tupelo native also accounted for two of the four interceptions thrown by Wildcats quarterback Jayden de Laura to secure his spot as the most valuable defensive player in the conference.

Johnson will have an opportunity to continue his pitch to NFL scouts this weekend as the Bulldogs take on LSU at Davis Wade Stadium on Saturday at 11 a.m. CT. Last season, the Tigers defeated Mississippi State 31-16 in Baton Rouge, La.

Caden Davis, a Texas A&M transfer now at Ole Miss, was named the SEC Special Teams Player of the Week following the Rebels 37-20 road win over Tulane. Davis, who began the season splitting extra point attempts with Caden Costa, cemented himself as Ole Miss’ primary kicker with Saturday’s stellar performance that featured a successful 56-yard field goal attempt to ultimately seal the game.

Davis was perfect on the day, splitting the uprights on three field goal attempts and making all four extra points.

Davis and the Rebels will now prepare to face a power five opponent in Georgia Tech in Vaught Hemingway Stadium on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. CT. The last time the two teams squared off, Ole Miss took down the Yellow Jackets 42-0 in Atlanta, Ga.
