Governor Tate Reeves has proclaimed June 12 as Women Veterans Day in Mississippi.

“Proud to proclaim June 12 Women Veterans Day. We salute and remember the women who courageously served our state and nation, and we honor our female veterans and their families for their outstanding service, sacrifice, and remarkable dedication to our nation,” Reeves wrote on Twitter, attaching a picture of the proclamation.

According to military.com, the first official Women Veterans Day was held on June 12, 2018, 70 years after the Women’s Armed Services Integration Act was signed into law. As of 2022, women now make up 20% of new recruits, 16% of active-duty personnel, and 19% of the National Guard and reserve forces.
