LIST: Juneteenth events happening across Mississippi

Juneteenth events across Mississippi will soon be kicking off in celebration of the historic freeing of the last slaves in Galveston, Texas, on June 19, 1865.

Here’s a list of parades, parties, and special events that will be held throughout the state.

Friday, June 14

Starkville Juneteenth Celebration: Opening ceremony and music festival at Westside Park from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Columbus Juneteenth Festival: Sim Scott Park at 7 p.m.

2nd annual Juneteenth Celebration: 332 N Main Street in Yazoo City from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Juneteenth Freedom Day Yard Fest: Tougaloo College in Jackson from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Meridian Juneteenth Festival: Black Business Expo at The MAX in Meridian

Juneteenth Cheeseburger Challenge Cook-Off: North Broadway Street in front of the Grand Hotel in Natchez from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Juneteenth Weekend Celebration, presented by Movers and Shakers Social Club: Biloxi Town Green

JZ 94.5 Juneteenth Freedom Ball featuring Willy Clayton: John Henry Beck Park in Biloxi

Saturday, June 15

Horn Lake Juneteenth Celebration: Latimer Lake Park at 12 p.m.

Oxford Juneteenth Festival: Central Elementary School parking lot

Tupelo Juneteenth Freedom Celebration: Gum Tree Park at 3 p.m.

Starkville Juneteenth Celebration: 5K run/walk and health fair at J.L. King Center at 7 a.m.; Boys to Men Life Camp at Shira Fieldhouse from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony at Unity Park at 11 a.m.; Jazz festival in celebration of Frankie Beverly and Maze at Renasant Plaza from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Columbus Juneteenth Festival: Downtown festival at 10 a.m.; festivities at Sim Scott Park from 4:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Meridian Juneteenth Festival: Pickleball Tournament at Sammie Davision Complex from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.; KidZone at the Mississippi Children’s Museum – Meridian from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.; Juneteenth concert on City Hall lawn from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Magee Juneteenth Celebration: Goodwater Church from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Tylertown Juneteenth Celebration: 45 Industrial Park Road in Tylertown from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Natchez Juneteenth Celebration – NAACP’s A Travel In Time: 301 Gayoso Street from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

“The Colored Museum” Play: Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art in Biloxi from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Juneteenth In The Pass (Park Event): War Memorial Park in Pass Christian from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

CROSS Inc. Juneteenth Gala: Pelican Landing in Moss Point at 5 p.m.

2nd annual JZ 94.5 Juneteenth Family Fun Day: Corner of 14th Street and 3rd Avenue in Gulfport at 3 p.m.

Juneteenth Celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.: Cade Chapel M.B. Church in Jackson from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
