Kentucky handles Mississippi State easily 24-3

It had been 15 years since a Kentucky team had walked off the field as winners at Davis Wade Stadium, but that long losing streak in Starkville came to an emphatic end on Saturday. The Wildcats dominated both sides of the ball against a hapless Mississippi State team, taking a 24-3 victory that wasn’t as close as the margin would leave you to believe.

The Bulldogs couldn’t get anything going offensively with backup quarterback Mike Wright, who finished the game 11-21 for 78 yards and 20 yards rushing, throwing an interception that Kentucky returned for a touchdown. As a team, the Bulldogs could only muster 206 yards of offense, turning to true freshman quarterback Chris Parson in the third quarter. Parson gave some spark to the Bulldogs but was unable to find the end zone as well. Kentucky’s Devin Leary finished the game 13-22 for 156 yards and 2 touchdowns before exiting the game early in the fourth quarter.

Mississippi State will be back in action next Saturday on the road in College Station, taking on the Texas A&M Aggies. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 PM.
